This Week's Free Lab Radio - Acid Arab Special

A exclusive mix from this French duo who've been producing and mixing tracks to feed their passion for Maghrebi, Egyptian and Middle Eastern tunes for some years now on a mega world tour that in March 2016 included a show in the Israel-controlled Old City in Jerusalem(!) as well as Tunis, Casablanca and Istanbul. Recently we aired a preview of their new release feat. Sofiane Saidi 'La Hafla' on our sister show Six Pillars, now for almost an hour of tunes sent in to us for a special broadcast on Resonance104.4FM.

This Week's Free Lab Radio - Oriental Slap

Nuts One (Ωu†$ ∅Ω€), a Swiss music producer and mix-maker, decided for this mix to take a vinyl trip to the Middle-East, Levant and North Africa.

Here's a selection of 70's oriental psychedelic tracks from his collection from Turkey, Lebanon, Algeria, Iran, Israel and Egypt.

Nuts One and Someplinghave (France) have also self-released 7" vinyl records, embracing the homemade aesthetic in both appearance and sound.

Nuts One is part of The Soundtrackers a crates diggers and beatmakers collective form Geneva, Switzerland. Members are: Nuts One, David Chandra, Mr.Riddler and Mr.Fake.

This Week's #FreeLabRadio Show - Experiments in Marrakech

Moroccan producer Abdellah M. Hassak presents a bespoke one hour mix for FreeLabRadio; DUBOSMIUM in Marrakech.

Using field recordings he has made in his country, samples and electronically produced sounds, Hassak's work, produced under the name DUBOSMIUM, is smoothly put together and unique.

Hassak is an active proponent of the Free Culture Movement and runs free workshops in Casablanca with a team of cultural activists. 

We first fell for his mix Carnival in Casbah which as soundscapes go (we've listened to so many over the years), is a great piece of work and naturally for Hassak, free to download.

DJ K Sets compiles tape cassettes from 80s Middle East and North Africa, arranged here in 3 genres:
"taxi tapes, electro tunes and hippie age". He calls his mixes "selected working class cultures". We've had a long interest in DJ K Sets as his other incarnation DJ Cinnamoon, possibly since 5 years ago. He's superbly underground, you have to chase him!

Turkey, Iran, Iraq and beyond. Long live cassette culture!

We have a winner! Jah Wobble Ticket Giveaway to Music Pilgrim

Congrats to Radu Odiatiu from Romania who's visiting London this weekend and won the pair of tickets to Jah Wobble's Tabernacle gig which is part of the current Nour Festival in West London.

Wadu said that Jah Wobble was responsible for introducing him to the culture of North Africa and Middle East with his basslines and that his "I'm an Algerian" is one of Radu's favourite tracks of all time. Radu also wrote us that as The Tabernacle plays such an important part in British musical history and is a site of cultural heritage, he'd like to be there to see it live. 

Jah wobble used to be part of PiL (Johnny Rotten's Public Image Limited), and has now expanded his musical range to experimenting with all sorts of amazing world music collaborators. We advertised tickets on this recent Free Lab Radio episode, on Resonance104.4FM
