Dance is a marriage of the representational capacity of language and the rhythmicity of music. Even though dance is a fundamental form of human expression, neuroscientists have given it relatively little consideration. The past decade, however, researchers have conducted the first brain-imaging studies of both amateur and professional dancers. These investigations address such questions as, How do dancers navigate though space? How do they pace their steps? How do people learn complex series of patterned movements? 1)

Garrett Gibbons made a kid-friendly radio edit version of Thrift Shop. We like it for several reasons. 1) we can play it on radio 2) it proves the song doesn't need the extras. Regardless of which version the track and video merit a mention because while recycling stands on its own as a motive to thrift shop, to be able to create your own style is entirely a talent in itself. Anyone can buy a look, only a few can build it or create a new one. And at no other time (that we can think of) has a track been better placed as a pop-rap release, because the ones listening to this will fall into one of two camps. For too long now music's been out of the hands of the one camp, and in the ears of the other. The industry, despite the democratisation of mp3s and bedroom studios, is flooded with privileged kids whose parents have driven them, parking outside for auditions, shopping for their wardrobes... Not since the 80s has a music genre belonged to a class. Take it back!

Taken from Alex Smoke's "WRAETLIC" album forthcoming on Convex Industries, RATS is a mesmeric new video pushing the tensions around pixellation of thought, dimensions, presence and that increasingly topical discussion of how-far-is-the-image-real, all matchingly evoked in his music. Listen to past work by Alex Smoke as Wraetlic (the name of both his side project and album).

After listening to Rats about ten times, I'm asking myself can this genre of haunting minimal techno only be stark? Africa-HiTech certainly had some buoyant aspects to their last album 93 Million Miles but it has the same overtones. We are not expecting anyone to defy their musical style, the question is more about how many palettes this genre affords us. How to be minimal then, dodge melancholia and keep your chin up?
