This Week's Free Lab Radio - Dance is a Neuroscience

Complex movement.  Sound generation. Kinesiology. Meaningful gesturing. Rhythmic synchronisation. Wordlessly communication. Brain synchrony. Rehabilitation and therapy. the magic of mutual gaze.

Dance is a Neuroscience

A mix by Fari B of the most sonically intriguing dance tunes in this year's playlist, plus new Nov-Dec releases. Moving through genres and sub-genres from 8-bit to Neurostep, it's a selection to end 2015 with.

Dance is a marriage of the representational capacity of language and the rhythmicity of music. Even though dance is a fundamental form of human expression, neuroscientists have given it relatively little consideration. The past decade, however, researchers have conducted the first brain-imaging studies of both amateur and professional dancers. These investigations address such questions as, How do dancers navigate though space? How do they pace their steps? How do people learn complex series of patterned movements? 1)

Streaming online and broadcasting on air on 104.4FM, at 11-midnight GMT (3-4am GST).
Repeat: Tuesday 4-5am GMT (7-8am GST)

This Week: #FreeLabRadio - Overheated Motor

Overheated Motor

Free Lab Radio host Fari Bradley presents a mix for cars on long journeys in blazing summer heat. Broadcasts 11pm Saturday night BST (British Summer Time), repeats Wednesday 2am.

Featured are the La Chiva Gantiva, DJ Schmolli, Mr Oizo, Noir Désir, Beastie Boys, Persian (from Essex), Wildbirds and Peacedrums, Alek AK (Iran), Stromae and more.

"Ou es ton papa?" - "Where's your papa?" which is what Stromae is saying people always asked him at school. It's a very diligent match to the Prodigy track, which is about doing a thing intensely, to a more than harmful degree.

Listen on air across London 104.4FM, online otherwise.

Tonight's Free Lab Radio Show - Darkfloor is a Genre

Tonight, 11pm, an hour of solid music mixed by Scotland-based Nomina, as a live set for Mantis Radio, a station that specialises in darkfloor electronica, in May 2013. Nomina is Tam Ferrans who lives in Kilmarnock, Scotland. Like many modern-day producers he toys with a series of monikers, worried fans of one won't be fans of the other. Thus he also records as Mitoma, and as Altered:Carbon (great name for a band) with Andy Paterson (theAudiologist) to create even more abstract, hip-hop based music. On tonight's show we're treated to sparse garage material reworked as Ambient unCrunk, darkfloor electronica,

Ferrans also co-founded the netlabel Section 27 one which his releases are amongst the 100+ they've produced since 2009. This year he also made this remix of Stormfield’s Collapsing System EP for Combat Recordings; a London based label who released the EP.
As Mitoma he'll soon be releasing a 3rd album Iso:Forms and has new Nonima material in the pipeline.

Tonight's Free Lab Radio Show - Bolly & Glitch Disco

Tonight we pay homage to the link between kooky Bolly wood disco and glitchy electro disco tunes, featuring two new tracks by Scanner, tracks with Bollywood steel guitar, and work by TEP, Dugong (following on from last week's show devoted only to women producing their own music) and several tracks to blow the bottom of your trousers right into the air ...

Tune in 11-midnight on 104.4FM in London or www.resonancefm.com/listen elsewhere//////

One of today's tracks :

Women Turning Knobs

Venus Radio

There's been a lot of media chat lately about women producers. But it all centred around the women who drive the desk and take control of the final sound direction of albums created by other people, but what about women who are visibly producing their own tracks and standing at the decks? Surely they're taking on more than one role and deserve a shout.

Looking back over Free Lab Radio playlists from the past three years, it is mostly men who've their names attached to the tracks we've loved. So we've put the effort in (it is not easy at first to remember or unearth good women producers, because normally you don't have it in mind whether the musics coming from a man or woman, but this time we've put our minds to it) and also must thank Free Lab Radio Facebook followers who've suggested/reminded us of a few of tonight's playlist.

Catch the show 11pm-midnight GMT and podcasts later on www.MIXCLOUD.com/fari

By the way...did you know that everyone in Lebanon has a cat?

Bedroom Features

Tonight's mix is done from: The Bedroom-Studio! Heard of it?

I don't think you'd notice, except that there's no talking. Building blocks, track by track.

Some great content. One of my all time favourites tracks near the end. Enjoy the journey, don't ask for a playlist.

From midnight until 1am Chris Weaver has organised something.  He won't tell me what it is, except that currently he's working on a massive project for 800 auto synths, naturally he's told no one about it really, except that it will be performed live in Scotland in the great outdoors as part of a ResonanceFM 2012 mega Olympic project.  Leaves it to me. Call me mouth. We'll probably hear about it first on the BBC, but watch this space, in case I can get more info.

❢Bah-bah Moombah❢

It's been a short while now the reggaeton-sprung sounds of Moombahton and it's tense derivative Moombahcore have been circling the pixel-sphere. Producers from the UK and farther afield are sampled in this Saturday's Free Lab Radio.

Where Moombah is relaxed, Moombahcore is tightly sprung. It all began when an ordinary Euro-dance track was slowed down to 108 beats per minute, close to reggaeton's tempo and the entire wilderness just flooded in...

December's Mix - Stockhausen & Elcectic Electro

Tonight Ed Bigland from Auracle Sound plays out an hour's mix of world electro with a festive strain. Bangers and mash!

Beyond that into the morning, we'll be heating Stockhausen's early works, much like the trippy video above.
