New Free Lab Radio Podcast - 'Electro Congo' on ResonanceFM

This week to mark an important new release, we feature contemporary Congolese dance music on Electro Congo, a Free Lab Radio special.

Selected electro-Congolese tracks alongside derivatives of Congolese drum 'n bass and other forms of apt-sounding electronica, pepper an almost album-length listen to a new release by legendary Grammy award winning band Konono formed 1966, Kinshasa, DRC.

"Konono No1 Meet Batida" released this April 2016. For the album Konono who use instruments made with found objects, worked with acclaimed Angolan/ Portuguese artist Batida, in Batida’s garage-cum-studio in Lisbon, reflecting the city’s vibrant, cosmopolitan music life. Also featured this week are derivatives of Congolese drum 'n bass and other forms of apt-sounding electronica.

This Week's Free Lab Radio - Electro Posé (WDEF)

Tonight! The French 'music diffuser', normally 'broadcasting' online since 2013, has had their station go offline this month. The beauty of on demand though means the mixes are online for years afterwards.

Tonight one hour of "Deep, Deep/House, Tech/House, Chill, Minimal. Pop/electro" from France mixed by Electro Posé. His mixes are characterised by a love of fuzzing up the sound only to make it clear again once your mind has wandered. These mixes are made for internet listening, while we type, on computer speakers.

Free Lab Radio Returns for a New Season With Outra-Neo-Disco

Free Lab Radio kicks off this Autumn season with some disco-informed dance tracks. After a summer of public dancing to mostly soulless music, there remains only one thing to do if we are not to give up, this week we seek out the soul in outra neo-disco and remixes.

The hi-hats, lyrics and claps are still there but an array of technology has spread through the notion of disco's musical style.

Free Lab Radio broadcasts Saturdays 11-midnight BST (British Summer Time), three hours behind GST (Gulf Standard Time, where the show is produced).

This Week's Free Lab Radio Mixx - ZZK by Frikstailers

Cumbia, space, bubblegum - this duo from Argentina Rafa Caivano and Lisandro Sona love hypnotic, tribal sounds.

They've delivered a superbly deranged remix of Die Anterwoord, and since 2006 have been playing tunes that in Latin America are considered trashy, even today. Set for a major tour, they've come to the attention of some of the mainstream trendmakers in the digital music scene, since their Redbull PanAmerika listings.

This mix is from their first label ZZK based in Buenos Aires, and although the duo have relocated to Mexico, they won't be at home for a long while as they ride out their success. You can get their more recent mixtape Thump for free HERE.

The last part of the show is a track by Umisetsu & Martin Dot, called Greenwater, selected by Chris Weaver for tonight's show. This long tonal track was originally on an album from Rain Netlabel and was rereleased by Phlow Magazine "Their Finest Hour". It's been in Fari's playlist for some years now!

"taxi tapes, electro tunes and hippie age". He calls his mixes "selected working class cultures". We've had a long interest in DJ K Sets as his other incarnation DJ Cinnamoon, possibly since 5 years ago. He's superbly underground, you have to chase him!
